As you know on 20th March, the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) will reduce the value of the Crime Legal Aid rate by 8.75%. Any new matters from that date must reflect the reduction.
With a further 8.75% cut planned for next year, thousands of lawyers in England and Wales have staged protests, including walkouts from court proceedings.
Although the issue had been widely covered, the LAA did not provide any detail of the changes for Perfect Software until 28th February. “This has meant that we have had to develop the changes and release them to all of our Criminal Clients at very short notice,” said Perfect Software’s Managing Director Patrick Carmody.
“It has demanded considerable time and resources to update,” Patrick continues, “but we have decided to maintain the cost of our Legal Aid Module at £300 + VAT per annum.”
On 7th March, lawyers staged a second walkout this year and protests look set to continue. Patrick Carmody added: “Our teams have begun the release of the update on the same day and we are committed to doing what we can to help our clients deal with the increased pressure they are facing.”
The Legal Aid Module is available as part of Perfect Books 4, the easiest and most cost effective way to manage timesheets, billing and case management whilst remaining compliant and up to date with ongoing and complex changes.
